Mandated Reporting
All district employees are mandated to report
within 24 hours
.
The individual who suspects the neglect or abuse is to make the call.
Call Child Protection (or the police if the child is in immediate danger).
952-891-7459
Work with the building principal, who can walk you through the process, verify that you made the report.
Do not wait over 24 hours if the principal is not available. Make the report and update him/her later.
If a mandated reporter fails to report, the person could be prosecuted.
This crime ranges from a misdemeanor to a felony, depending on the harm suffered by the child.
A written copy of the Suspected Child Maltreatment Reporting Form must be submitted to them within 72 hours.
This can be found on our website by searching “mandated reporting”
Whether or not Child Protection decides to investigate, a written copy of the Suspected Child Maltreatment Reporting Form is completed and sent to:
Dakota County Children & Family Intake, 14955 Galaxie Ave, Apple Valley, MN 55124, FAX: 952-891-7192
The name of the reporter is confidential by law.
If you are unsure, make the call
(Child Protection will make the decision as to whether or not to open a case.)
Our obligation is only to report, not to investigate.
A school employee may be the subject of a report.
When an allegation of maltreatment is made against a school employee, the district will assess the circumstances surrounding the report. If there is any reason to believe that maltreatment may have occurred, a report will be made to The Student Maltreatment Program at the Minnesota Department of Education.
